Succeeding the Silver Dawn, the thoroughly updated and much anticipated Silver Cloud was launched in 1955, showcasing a design by Rolls-Royce chief styling engineer J.P. Blatchley, formerly of J. Gurney Nutting & Co. The company’s most successful model to date, over 2,200 were built and featured a 4.9-litre, inline six-cylinder engine; a twin SU carburetor induction setup was added in late 1957.
This Silver Cloud, originally finished in sand over red, was sold new in January 1959 via Nick Ciliberti Pontiac of Kutztown, Pennsylvania, to George P. Green, Esq. of nearby Conyngham. In early 1980, Ben Zimmer of Waxhaw, North Carolina, purchased the Rolls-Royce from Gary L. Bryant of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. According to receipts on file, Mr. Zimmer immediately undertook significant mechanical and cosmetic restorative work and retained the Saloon through at least 1995.
Recently acquired by the consignor, the Rolls-Royce displays just over 87,000 miles and appears in well-kept condition with an inviting patina to its monochromatic black paint finish and red leather interior. Included with the Silver Cloud are copies of its build cards, a file of restoration receipts, tools, jack, and workshop manual. This handsome Silver Cloud offers a superbly comfortable ride with a spacious passenger compartment, abundant luggage space, and a distinguished pedigree.
