Developed as a successor to the 911 and unveiled in 1977, the Porsche 928 was a technical tour de force. With its space age styling, sophisticated chassis, and $23,000 sticker price, the exotic 928 was a darling of the automotive press. The first sports car ever awarded “Car of the Year” honors, the 928 remained Porsche’s own alternative to the 911 for nearly two decades.

This 928 is an early US model, completed in January 1978 and retailed through Jim Kelly Porsche-Audi of Buffalo, New York. Ordered with the desirable five-speed manual transaxle, and specified without a sunroof or rub strips, this Porsche was finished in optional Silver Metallic with black leather and pinstriped cloth upholstery.

Retained by its original owner until 1993 – and showing less than 36,000 miles from new – this 928 benefits from a show-quality restoration carried out between 2015 and 2018. While the project was initially entrusted to a specialist in Michigan, the painstaking final assembly was overseen by William Anast and Rob Edwards, California-based enthusiasts respected among the 928 community for their expertise. Over $100,000 was invested in the photo-documented restoration and today the car looks as though it just left the factory, accurately detailed down to the proper Pirelli P7 tires.

Since its restoration, this 928 has earned an award at the 2019 PCA Werks Reunion and was granted a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate, confirming that it retains matching-numbers components throughout. This superb Porsche is also offered with its original owner’s manual, warranty/maintenance book, and Blaupunkt radio manuals, along with a tool kit, jack, spare, model brochure, workshop manual, and extensive restoration records.

A meticulously restored example of an innovative Porsche model, this exceptional, early-production 928 is undoubtedly among the very best in existence.
