Among the most important American automobiles ever built, the secondgeneration Corvette is a true icon. At its 1963 introduction, it was almost entirely new compared to its predecessor. This meant a new chassis and suspension, including an independent rear arrangement for the first time. Styling drew heavily on Bill Mitchell’s sensational 1959 XP-87 Stingray concept, ensuring that the new Corvette had the looks to match its specification.

1965 saw substantial updates, with the introduction of both the big-block engine and disc brakes. 1965’s 396 cid big-block grew to 427 cid for 1966 and came in two states of tune. This example is the highly desirable top-of-the-line 450 hp L72 version.

Following a refurbishment from 2001 to 2003, which included restoring this example to its original colors of Mosport Green with a black interior, the Corvette went through rigorous scrutiny, receiving the Bloomington Gold, as well as the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence and Top Flight awards. Fitted with knock-off wire wheels, an AM/FM radio, and a teak steering wheel, the Corvette is accompanied at auction by awards, an owner’s manual, scoring sheets, and Protect-O-Plate, along with an Al Grenning engine pad, trim tag, and Protect-O-Plate certification. The level of restoration, exceptionally attractive color combination, and desirable specification of this L72 Coupe ensure that it will excite even the most discerning Corvette enthusiast.
