Gran Turismo Omologato: a nameplate steeped in history, and one awarded to only the most prestigious road cars from Ferrari. Only two road cars had the privilege to bear the name prior to 2010: the 250 GTO and 288 GTO. The sheer level of performance needed was clearly defined by its lineage, and is why each creation has come to be some of Ferrari’s most sought-after collector’s items.
The 599 GTO, unveiled in 2010, was developed directly from the track only 599XX for use on the road. With sleek lines penned by renowned designer Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina, it transformed what was previously a front-engine, two-seat grand touring road car, into a driving experience previously reserved for Ferrari’s acclaimed Corse Clienti program. Its performance was not to be understated – it was Ferrari’s fastest road car at the time, smashing records set by their very own Enzo model. To achieve this, a raw, naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-12 engine, which produced a staggering 661 hp at 8,250 rpm, was coupled to a six-speed semiautomatic F1 transmission. Together, they allowed for a 0–60 mph time of just 3.1 seconds. In addition, numerous aerodynamic and weight-saving techniques were employed, allowing for a chassis that weighed more than 200 pounds less than the 599 GTB. Although it was not a true homologation model, the complete package brought forth by the 599 GTO benchmarked a new performance standard for Ferrari. Just 125 examples would be brought to the US.
This 599 GTO was delivered new to its first owner via Midwestern Auto Group in Columbus, Ohio. The exterior is adorned in a stunning shade of Argento Nürburgring (Nürburgring Silver), accented by black center striping, black BBS wheels, and carbon fiber shields. The striking specification is mimicked on the interior with Rosso (Red) trimmed Daytona seats and extensive carbon fiber trim. Red seat belts and Alcantara accents contribute to a total of more than $46,000 in options. After taking delivery, its Ohio-based owner enjoyed the Ferrari relatively infrequently, adding just under 4,000 miles before selling it in 2014. The GTO remained in Ohio in 2015 before being sold once again in 2016 to its third and long-term owner, based in Florida. Service documents indicate annual servicing at Ferrari of Washington in Sterling, Virginia, as well as minimal use, as the odometer now reads just 5,949 miles upon cataloguing. Most recently, in February 2023, a major service was completed with all drive belts and spark plugs replaced.
Classiche certified, and accompanied by its Red Book, original owner’s manuals, and service documentation, this 599 GTO presents beautifully, and is ready to be appreciated by its next owner. As naturally aspirated, limited-edition models continue to gain in both popularity and value, this 599 GTO will be sure to fit into the most discerning of collectors’ garages.
