The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was released in 1965 in response to the notion that its predecessor, the Silver Cloud, was technologically falling behind its competitors. The Silver Shadow’s new unitary construction provided increased interior and luggage space, despite the car being shorter and narrower than the outgoing Silver Cloud. Additional upgrades included disc brakes and an independent rear suspension. The styling was completely refined and the Silver Shadow was produced with minimal changes until 1980, making it an icon of British motoring.
This Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was reportedly purchased new by a lawyer in Santa Barbara, California. In 1970, the car was purchased by Vernon Patterson Hunt of Yucaipa, California as a gift for his wife Marian. Upon Mr. Hunt’s passing, the Rolls-Royce was left to his nephew, Michael West, who had a collection of postwar American cars which he would loan to movie studios. In 2002, the car was used in the filming of the movie Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, featuring George Clooney. In 2021, the consignor purchased the Rolls-Royce and enlisted a local specialist to overhaul the braking, cooling, and ignition systems at a cost of over $11,000. Finished in an attractive shade of maroon over tan leather, this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is not to be overlooked.
