A dynamic gilded bronze figure of a female tennis player in traditional dress, set on a textured sôcle with impressed signature G. OMERTH, set on the original marble base. French, circa 1920.

Very little is known of this talented and versatile sculptor, but Georges Omerth (French, active 1895–1925) is probably best known for his bronzes and chryselephantine sculptures that often depicted children. His subjects ranged from animalier pieces in the form of dogs and deer, French military subjects, Art Nouveau bronze and ivory figures of females in period attire, and Art Deco sporting statues such as this one, created later in his career, depicting tennis, football, and golf players.

Size: 11 x 8 x 3.5 in. (28 x 20 x 9 cm).
