Hailed as an engineering masterpiece, the Lancia Aurelia has always appealed to discerning motorists, thanks to its advanced design, quality construction, and understated good looks. The B20 GT coupe, built from 1951–1958, was a favorite among the era’s Grand Prix drivers and maintains a loyal following today. The Aurelia presented here is one of 720 examples from the third series, which introduced the 2.5-liter engine and revised Pinin Farina coachwork that remained throughout the model’s production run.
A long-standing UK-based car, this B20 GT was reportedly imported by famed racing driver David Piper and owned by S.C.H. “Sammy” Davis, the well-known British motoring journalist. Subsequently owned by a succession of Lancia club members, the Aurelia was acquired in 1999 by Michael Jennings of Oxford, under whose ownership it was restored and participated in numerous European rallies. During his ownership, the B20 GT was also featured in Niels Jonassen’s book Lancia Aurelia In Detail, as well as Motor Sport and Classic & Sports Car. Under the current owner, the B20 GT was entrusted to renowned Aurelia specialist Thornley Kelham for extensive cosmetic and mechanical attention, including an engine rebuild, new wiring, a repaint in dark blue metallic, and interior re-trim in Connolly leather. Equipped with a Nardi steering wheel, floor-mounted shifter, Rallye da Corsa bucket seats, and Borrani wheels, this lovely, thoughtfully upgraded example of the classic gentleman’s GT is an ideal choice for a multitude of historic motoring events.
