Introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari 308 GTB was the replacement for the 246 Dino and marked a major shift from primarily front-engine V-12 road cars to mid-engine V-8 models. The first car designed by Pininfarina with the aid of its new wind tunnel, the 308’s compact, sleek, aerodynamic shape would certainly stand the test of time and prove a most successful endeavor for the Italian automaker.

The earliest 308 GTB bodies were produced by Scaglietti in fiberglass, or vetroresina in Italian, making it the first road-going Ferrari to be built in the lightweight composite. Weighing in at just 2,315 lbs., the lithe 308 GTBs were beautiful, quick, and well balanced. Just 712 Vetroresina models were built before Ferrari switched to a heavier steel-body construction as a cost-saving measure.

This handsome 308 GTB Vetroresina was built in February 1977 in rare and desirable Azzurro Metallizzato (Light Blue Metallic) over a Pelle Beige (Beige Leather) interior and was sold new through Société Anonyme pour la Vente des Automobiles Ferrari (SAVAF) of Geneva, Switzerland. As a Europeanspecification model, it was built with the highly coveted dry sump 2.9-liter V-8 engine, sans any power-robbing US emissions equipment. The car reportedly spent the majority of its existence in Switzerland and retains the original Swiss identification etchings on its glass. In 2007, the 308 was sold to a collector in Denmark, before making its way to the US in 2016. It received a cosmetic and mechanical freshening by marque experts with an eye toward carefully protecting and preserving originality wherever possible. Engine, carburetion, electrical system, air-conditioning, and suspension components were all addressed before the car was refinished in its factory-correct color scheme. It retains its original engine and gearbox, as confirmed by the accompanying Ferrari Classiche Vehicle Production Data certificate issued in 2016. In 2023, the car received a major service, including a new timing belt, water pump, fluids, and dyno tuning.

This European-specification 308 GTB Vetroresina is the most collectible of all the 308/328 Ferrari road cars. Its beautiful and rarely seen color scheme only serves to push it further up the scale of desirability. Recent showings at some of the nation’s most prestigious events, including the 2021 Concorso Italiano, where it earned an FCA Gold Award, are a testament to the 308’s condition. The car is offered with its owner’s folio, memorabilia, awards, invoices, spare, jack, and tools. As the lightest and most well balanced of the 308s, this Vetroresina stands to offer its new caretaker exhilarating performance, as well as the exclusivity that accompanies owning such an uncommon example.
