Production of Jaguar’s E-Type entered its third series for the 1971 model year and debuted the company’s potent V-12 engine. The new car was longer and wider, offering more room than previous variants. Power steering was standard and both roadster and 2+2 coupe body styles were available, as was an automatic transmission. Compared to early production E-Types, these later examples offer tremendous performance and comfort, especially when fitted with a manual gearbox like the car presented here.
This 1974 E-Type Roadster is an incredibly original example that was built just two months before the end of E-Type production. A title on file from 2000 shows that it was owned by Tony Carlini of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and the car is noted as having 3,305 miles. The reading at the time of cataloguing of 4,489 miles is, along with the paint and interior, believed by the consignor to be original to the car. The engine compartment shows incredibly detailed care, and the trunk contains a well-preserved jack, lug wrench, adapter, and knock-off hammer.
Beautifully presented in white over a red leather interior, and desirably fitted with factory air-conditioning, this E-Type Series III Roadster is an uncommon opportunity to add a time-warp example to a growing Jaguar collection, or for a driving enthusiast to carefully add miles in a sympathetic fashion.
