Hiram Hillegass started building cars in Allentown, Pennsylvania circa 1919, and became one of the foremost sprint car builders of the period. His place in the history of open-wheel racing was acknowledged with his 1997 induction into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
According to a poster that accompanies this fantastic Hillegass-HAL Sprint Car, it was first owned by Carl Secules and during a career that spanned from 1949 to 1957 was driven by Buddy Phillips, Earl Horne, Shorty McAndrews, and Lou Johnson.
Resplendent in its red livery, the Hillegass wears an AACA National First Prize Senior Award badge from 1992. It is fitted with Halibrand aluminum wheels and is powered by a rare HAL-modified DOHC Ford Model B engine.
Eligible for many vintage motoring events nationwide, this Sprint Car offers the adventurous collector value and excitement wrapped in a spectacular package.
