First sold to the public in August 1965, Ford’s Bronco was one of the earliest examples of a sport utility vehicle and became an American icon. Designed to better compete in a growing utility market, the second generation was unveiled in 1978 as a larger truck with improved on-road manners. Based on a shortened version of the F-100 4x4 pickup, the Bronco was powered by either a 351 cid Cleveland V-8 or 400 cid V-8, and they all came standard with four-wheel drive. The second-generation Bronco was only produced in 1978 and 1979, making it a particularly uncommon body style.
This professionally restored and modified 1979 Bronco is presented in a stunning shade of Dark Jade Metallic over a green vinyl and patterned cloth interior and has been the subject of a comprehensive mechanical refurbishment and cosmetic detailing. Under the hood lies a fuel-injected, 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 from a modern Mustang, paired with a 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission that sends power through an Atlas two-speed transfer case – all installed by Exoticar in Los Angeles, California. The suspension has also been upgraded with a set of Fox shocks, and Wilwood disc brakes are fitted all around. This incredible Bronco Ranger XLT is accompanied by invoices showing over $260,000 for all the work carried out and is an exquisitely crafted restomod ready to offer an understated and modernized experience to its next lucky caretaker.
