For the 1974 model year, Porsche’s flagship 911 received significant updates to comply with new safety and emissions rules in the US. The new G series featured a shorter hood, impact-absorbing bumpers, a rear reflective panel with Porsche lettering, and three-point safety belts. A new Carrera model was also introduced and offered to American buyers. It was fitted with a 2.7-liter, flat-six engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection factory-rated at 175 hp and 167 lbs./ ft. of torque, although some experts surmise true output could be higher. The Carrera trim package distinguished the model from the standard 911 through pronounced flared fenders, wider Fuchs wheels with body-color-matching wheel centers, front and rear spoilers, and Carrera decals.

One of just 528 US-specification coupes built for 1974, this 911 Carrera 2.7 was originally finished in the handsome color combination of black over a black leatherette interior. Other equipment specified included tinted glass, limited-slip differential, electric sunroof, gold Carrera door script, and a ducktail rear spoiler. A period Blaupunkt radio and antenna remain fitted. A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity verifies the numbers-matching engine as well as its original options and colors. Indicating under 66,000 miles on its odometer at the time of cataloguing, this example has benefited from care and attention through the years as indicated by a thick file of service receipts. Presenting in lovely condition overall, this Carrera would be an excellent addition to any Porsche collection.
