In nearly seven decades of Corvette production, there have been too many special variants to count, but this Pratt & Miller C6RS stands apart not just for its rarity and race-bred heritage, but also for its refinement and usability. Neither a barely disguised race car nor a standard Corvette with graphics and bolt-on parts, the C6RS was comprehensively re-engineered by General Motors’ factory-sanctioned endurance-racing partner as an uncompromised vision of the ultimate Corvette. Gary Pratt explained: The “C6RS was inspired by our Corvette race program, but it’s not a race car for the street. You can take the Corvette C6RS on a 300-mile road trip, or drive it to a track day and run fast laps.”
And Mr. Pratt knows a thing or two about racing, since his firm engineered and campaigned many of the most successful Corvette race cars of all time. Since establishing Corvette Racing with GM in the 1990s, Pratt & Miller have won 10 American Le Mans Series championships, eight Le Mans class wins, and four victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona, among many other achievements.
Costing around $300,000 new, the C6RS is what a Corvette can become when not restricted by assembly line-based manufacturing, and the car’s specifications reflect this. It has purpose-built carbon fiber body panels 1.6" wider than the Z06 and incorporates numerous C6.R-style aerodynamic features. The interior is luxuriously trimmed in French seamed leather, including the dashboard, center console, and door panels. The mechanical components have been reimagined in a similar “sky’s the limit” fashion, with adjustable-height air suspension and proprietary Pratt & Miller damping, forged BBS center-lock wheels, Brembo monobloc brakes, and a truly impressive custom-built engine.
Just 11 examples of the C6RS were built, all of which were fitted with 600 hp naturally aspirated engines except this one. This particular car, Gary Pratt’s personal C6RS and the first production example built, received a 756 hp supercharged 427 by Thompson Automotive that makes an astonishing 784 lbs./ft. of torque at just 3,700 rpm. Mr. Pratt retained this car for nearly 10 years, selling it to the consignor in 2017. The Corvette had approximately 13,770 miles when catalogued and remains in superb condition today. It has been featured in numerous articles, copies of which are included among the car’s copious documentation file.
Engineered and built by one of motor sports’ most legendary teams, the Pratt & Miller C6RS is a technological tour de force that reflects the firm’s unmatched expertise. Any example of the model is highly collectible, but this one, the only supercharged C6RS and Gary Pratt’s personal car, must be regarded as the most desirable.
