Named after a swift dromedary camel, Citroën’s Méhari was an elemental and lightweight recreational and utility vehicle, based on the chassis and mechanicals of the 2CV. In fact, the Méhari was quite similar in concept to BMC’s Mini-derived Mini Moke. In addition to the innovative chassis and suspension design of the 2CV, the Méhari featured a unique ABS plastic body with removable doors and a fabric convertible top.

The Méhari enjoyed production from 1968 to 1988 in two-wheel drive form throughout its run, complemented by a four-wheel drive configuration from 1980 to 1983. In all, Citroën manufactured 144,953 Méharis between the vehicle’s French launch in May 1968, and the end of production in 1988. The model was an unqualified success; so much so, that versions were built in many other countries. Nearly 7,100 were purchased by the French Army. After Méhari production ceased, strong demand and the vehicle’s mechanical simplicity fostered a robust secondary market and restoration industry.

One of 11,742 examples built for 1970, this fantastic Méhari features a 602 cc engine, four-speed gearbox, legendary Citroën long-travel suspension, and folding windscreen. With its striking white paint over black upholstery, this Méhari would make trips to the beach and ice cream shop even more memorable and would be sure to delight all those fortunate enough to encounter its charismatic presence.
