Introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show, the mid-engine, two-seater Ferrari 308 GTB featured a 2.9-liter DOHC V-8, five-speed transaxle, independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Bodywork was fabricated from fiberglass – vetroresina in Italian – until June 1977.

This 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB is one of 712 Vetroresinas built and one of 100 specified for the US. Finished in Rosso Chiaro (Light Red), it was dispatched by the factory to Bill Harrah’s famed Modern Classic Motors of Reno, Nevada, in September 1976. In February 2015, the car was acquired by Houston-based collector Michael Green and sent to award-winning Motion Products Inc. of Neenah, Wisconsin, for a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration to a high standard. The restoration was completed in late 2016 with detailed receipts on file totaling over $221,000. As part of this restoration, a broken odometer was replaced; approximately 1,000 miles have been logged since the restoration. Under current ownership the Vetroresina has enjoyed minimal use and recent service and sorting from authorized dealer Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale, with invoices on file. Accompanied by books, tools, jack, emergency accessories, and documentation, this 308 GTB obtained prestigious Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification in August 2018 authenticating it as a matching-numbers example retaining its original engine and transaxle. Quite likely the finest example available, this rare and sought-after 308 GTB Vetroresina is still eminently capable of providing the sporty road performance that made the model so popular in period.
