First introduced as a limited-production coupe in 2004 to commemorate Mercedes-Benz's 2003 championship win in the relaunched Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) racing series, the CLK DTM was the most track-focused AMG ever constructed. Only 100 coupes were built and they were offered to potential buyers by invitation only. Beginning in 2006, a cabriolet version was made available with production limited to only 80 units. Both versions of the CLK DTM were quickly purchased by collectors, as well as several well-known F1 drivers, such as Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen, and Jenson Button.
The CLK DTM utilizes a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 engine and a speedshift 5G-Tronic automatic transmission to transfer its 582 hp to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. Capable of achieving 0-60 mph in just under four seconds, a multi-link suspension consisting of height-adjustable coil-over shocks, as well as front and rear stabilizer bars, provides the DTM with exceptional control and stability. Braking is managed by six-piston Brembo monobloc calipers and cross-drilled floating rotors, which sit behind the three-piece, forged-alloy AMG wheels.
In addition to the DTM-inspired bodywork offered on the coupe, which features lightweight flared fenders, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, and split rear diffuser, the cabriolet version featured an electrically operated soft top. The minimally designed interior reflects the race-inspired origins of the DTM Cabriolet, while offering several creature comforts not available with the coupe version, including rear seats. Trimmed in black leather and gray Alcantara, the cabin features manually adjustable bucket seats and a bespoke, Alcantara-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel equipped with paddle shifters. Carbon fiber is seen throughout the interior, including on the door panels, front seat buckets, rear seats, and center console.
Never officially sold in the US, the majority of DTM models were intended for the European market. However, a small number have made their way into the country over the past few years, but rarely enter the open market. This CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet was acquired new by its first owner via a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Prague, and imported to the US in 2009 under the show or display exemption. It was then converted to meet US EPA standards by the federalization experts J.K. Technologies of Baltimore. In current ownership, the Mercedes-Benz has been kept among the consignor's vast collection of world-class sports and racing cars and was serviced in 2021 at Mercedes-Benz of Westmont, Illinois. The Mercedes-Benz is accompanied by owner's manuals, first aid kit, air compressor, roadside service kit, CLK DTM model car, service records, and a CARFAX Vehicle History Report. With just two owners from new and fitted with great-sounding, dual Eisenmann mufflers, this low-mileage CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet is a rare opportunity for avid collectors of significant race-inspired vehicles.
