Instrumental in providing vehicles for the war effort, the Allard Motor Company of London found itself with a plethora of leftover car parts after the war, but no contracts. As a result, the manufacturer built and introduced a lightweight two-seater called the K1. In 1950, it evolved into the K2, which featured a revised aluminum body, received several upgrades, and was offered with a Ford, Mercury, or Chrysler engine.
This Allard K2 was ordered with a powerful Chrysler Hemi engine from the factory and dispatched to Jack Pry of Washington, D.C. One of only 119 built, and one of 18 exported to the US, it was finished in ivory over black with black fenders and wire wheels. While the car's provenance is well documented, its competition history is unknown. During a restoration more than 30 years ago, the Allard's original three-speed Ford gearbox, which accompanies the car, was replaced with a four-speed Muncie unit, and the paint color was changed to a deep blue with gray leather interior. More recently, the Allard was fitted with Jaguar E-Type splined rear hubs, replacing the original Allard hubs. As an enthusiastic tour participant, the current owner has maintained the car with extreme care.
Rare when new and even rarer today, this Allard K2 has made an appearance at the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance and is offered with restoration receipts – a solid foundation for future events and exhibitions.
