Created in the early 1990s for the popular Sound of Singles racing series, the Supermono was a technological tour de force and regarded as one of the best-looking racing motorcycles ever made. With a mere 67 built, they have become some of the most sought-after of all Ducatis.
The Supermono combined the horizontal front cylinder from the 888 Corsa with a counterbalancing second connecting rod that endowed the single-cylinder engine with the balance of a V-Twin. Other features inherited from the racing V-Twin included large inlet and exhaust valves, 50 mm throttle bodies, and twin fuel injectors. The steel-tube frame followed Ducati’s established trellis pattern, and the bike’s aluminum swingarm was connected directly to the crankcase and gearbox casting. Carbon fiber was used extensively, except the engine side covers, top yoke, and wheels which were constructed from magnesium, resulting in a dry weight of a mere 267 pounds.
This fantastic example was delivered new in Germany to its first owner and was then traded to an enthusiast in Denmark. The Ducati then spent time at the Vintage Motos Museum in Denver. It has reportedly been repainted at some point, only participated in track days, and never been raced. A new timing belt was installed in 2014 by Ducati specialist Retrospeed of Belgium, Wisconsin. This is an important opportunity to own one of the rarest and most collectible of all Ducatis.
