Founded by Alois Ruf Sr. in 1939, Ruf Automobile GmbH originated as an automotive and mechanical repair workshop. Following his father's death in 1974, Alois Jr. recast the company's focus to modifying the Porsche 911. Launched in 2004, the RUF RT 12 – short for "Ruf Turbo Number 12" – was the company's 12th modified 911 with a turbocharger, and their first model based upon the then-new Porsche 997 platform.
Utilizing the wider 997 Carrera 4 body shell, the RT 12 was distinguished by a redesigned front end with a deeper spoiler and lift-reducing vent in the center. Topping the rear fenders, prominent intakes fed air into the intercoolers. A downforce-producing, double-decker rear spoiler was crafted from carbon fiber. On the inside, bucket seats were standard, while an available integrated roll cage increased torsional stiffness by 25%.
Rated at 560 hp, the RT 12's standard 3.6-liter flat-six engine featured dry sump lubrication, titanium connecting rods, hi-lift camshafts, twin KKK K24 turbochargers with cold-side aluminum housings, and upgraded compressor wheels delivering 1.2 bar of boost. An optional 3.8-liter version developed 650 hp at 7,000 rpm, with an impressive 640 lbs./ft. of torque delivered between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm. Adjustable coil-over suspension allowed for usability on either the road or track, while stopping was ably handled by massive Brembo carbon ceramic discs at all four corners. Equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox with limited-slip differential, the RT 12 was available with rear or all-wheel drive. RUF quoted a conservative 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 220 mph, giving the RT 12 similar performance to the Porsche Carrera GT and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
This 2006 RT 12 was ordered in US specification directly from RUF by its current owner in June 2006. Finished in special Chroma Flash Hologram Matte paint over a vibrant Flamenco red leather interior with black carpets, this RT 12 was additionally specified with the 3.8-liter 650 hp engine, all-wheel drive, Kevlar carbon doors, integrated roll cage, interior carbon package, and 19" OZ Superleggera wheels. A RUF build sheet on file lists a total price just shy of $350,000.
The owner of this RT 12 has maintained it from new within his collection of Porsche and RUF sports cars. Illustrating careful use of this RUF over the past 16 years, the odometer showed just 16,659 miles at the time of cataloguing. As one might expect, this car presents in superb condition throughout with few evident signs of use. This RT 12 is offered with books, keys, and import documentation. Built in very limited numbers from 2004 to 2011, this highly optioned, one-owner RT 12 is an involving, analogue supercar with performance and style that will surely delight its next caretaker.
