In 1957, Juan Manuel Fangio drove a Maserati 250F to victory at the Nürburgring to secure his fifth Formula 1 World Drivers' Championship. This meticulously designed 3/4-scale tribute to that legendary motor-racing icon was built by Mario Allegretti of Modena, under license from Maserati, then under the ownership of Alejandro de Tomaso.

Superb in its attention to detail, this brilliant red monoposto is an extraordinary expression of automotive artistry. Hand built by Allegretti, the craftsman who created bodies for some of the most famous Italian sports racing cars of the 1950s and 1960s, this fantastic machine features a tubular chassis with fully independent suspension, disc brakes, and lightweight aluminum bodywork.

The 250F is one of only four Allegretti models fitted with Benelli's Quattro engine, a carbureted 250 cc four-stroke motorcycle unit that delivers 27 hp at an astonishing 10,500 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed sequential gearbox and the claimed top speed is 50 mph.

Bearing chassis 002, this Allegretti 250F is believed to be the second example of its type built, and it originally retailed for approximately 25,000,000 lire, a tremendous sum in 1985. Since 2005, this Italian jewel has been a featured display in the consignor's Texas-based collection, with recent mechanical attention to return it to running order. Thoughtfully engineered and beautifully finished, Mario Allegretti's tribute to the Maserati 250F is a must-have for the serious collector.
