The modern, enveloping aluminum body of the K3 placed it above its predecessors, the K1 and K2. Featuring De Dion rear suspension, a lighter, sturdier chassis, and more spacious interior, the Allard K3 was launched in 1952 with high expectations. However, its comparatively high sticker price restricted production to just 63 units, making surviving examples highly collectible.
This K3 is exceptional, even among its peers. Whereas most examples were fitted with Ford or Mercury flathead engines, this example sports an original Cadillac V-8 with period Edmund’s valve covers and twin carburetors, paired with an upgraded five-speed gearbox. It is believed that this K3 spent its earliest years in Southern California and may have taken part in the sports car races at the Pomona Fairgrounds. Between 2004 and 2007, this K3 underwent a comprehensive frame-off restoration. The chassis was refurbished and powder coated, while the bodywork was refinished in an attractive bright blue with red leather upholstery and contrasting black wire wheels and carpeting. Following its restoration, the Allard participated in the 2009 California Mille and then joined a private East Coast collection, where it remained until its recent sale to the consignor.
This rare and desirable Cadillac-powered K3 presents beautifully, rendering it a perfect entrant for prestigious historic events, including exclusive vintage sports car rallies such as the California Mille and Colorado Grand.
