The 280 SL was the third and most powerful iteration of the iconic Paul Bracq and Béla Barényi-designed “Pagoda” SL (W113). Powered by the M130 straight six-cylinder engine, it produced a very respectable 180 hp, with a top speed of 124 mph.

This 280 SL is from the last year of production, 1971, and is a European model, having been purchased new by Peter Mueller of Berlin. After passing among several owners, it was imported to the US by Georgia-based attorney Paul C. Conradsen in 1981. After being acquired by the consignor, the SL received a multi-year, photo-documented restoration performed by Mercedes specialist Centennial Motors in Roswell, Georgia, beginning in 2013. The SL was refinished in its original and very rare Dark Bronze Metallic with a matching hardtop, complementing the new Cognac leather upholstery. The engine, differential, and transmission were attended to, metal work was performed as needed, including the replacement of the floor pans, and a new soft top was installed. The car is fitted with its proper European headlights, aftermarket Hella driving lamps, and a four-speed automatic transmission. The consignor also notes that air-conditioning was installed during the restoration. The engine bay is thoroughly detailed, and the car presents exceptionally well.

This 280 SL, professionally restored and documented, has seen little use since completion and is an exceptional example to be seriously considered by any Mercedes-Benz enthusiast.
