Description
Without Reserve

This extremely rare 1940s game is celebrated as the first coin-operated arcade driving game made and proved to be very popular in the penny arcades of the time. The player must drive across the map of the US and stay on course. The object is to drive from New York to Los Angeles, but going off course will delay your progress. Each time you reach a new city along the way it lights up, rings, and scores another 1,000 points. The road is a large cylinder that rotates and moves side to side, driven by belts and chains inside the machine. Your job is to try and keep the car on the road. When you are on the road the game makes sounds, telling you that you are getting points. When you are off the road the game buzzes, telling you that you are not scoring. This example lights up, spins, makes mechanical noises, and the car steers down the road, but it does not register score or distance, as the part that controls that aspect of the game is missing. The consignor notes that it remains in original condition except for the coin drop door and back door. This is an incredible opportunity to acquire the first coin-operated driving game and would be a fun addition to any collection. Made in the US. Dimensions: 32.5" L x 30" W x 79.75" H
