Highlights
An Impressively Original, Unrestored Example Rare as One of Approximately 1,100 Champagne Edition II Beetles Built Stunning Peach Red Metallic over Ermine White Interior Long-Term California Ownership A Highly Collectible Beetle from the Penultimate Year of US Delivery
The Volkswagen Beetle’s successful run, in which over 21 million examples were built, was facilitated by its robust, economical, and stylish design. Throughout its decades-long production history, Beetles were revered by everyone from celebrities to families looking for modest transport to off-road racers. As the Beetle neared the end of its production run for US consumption, Volkswagen introduced a number of limited and commemorative variants including the Champagne Edition range in 1977 and Champagne Edition II cars for 1978. Each model in Volkswagen’s lineup received Champagne Edition treatment, which included unique color and option combinations.
This incredible 1978 Beetle Convertible Champagne Edition II is one of approximately 1,100 produced. The Champagne Edition II Beetles were available in just two colors, including this example’s beautiful shade called Peach Red Metallic. This Beetle shows just over 57,400 miles and is believed by the consignor to retain largely original paint, interior, and top. The Volkswagen was serviced by the consignor in spring 2020, including new fluids, ignition components, tires, and a fuel level sender.
This remarkably original and well-preserved Beetle has all the attributes of a top-tier and collectible variant of the model. Limited production, unique features, and a gorgeous color combination combine with open-air motoring to offer an incomparable ownership experience. Here is the perfect classic for the enthusiast with champagne taste on a Beetle budget.
