To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its 911, Porsche announced the Carrera Speedster, an all-new model that offered a modern update on the original 356 Speedster.
Based on the outstanding 3.2 Carrera, with its fuel-injected flat six and brilliant G50 transaxle, the 911 Speedster featured a cut-down windscreen that was lower and more raked than that of the conventional Cabriolet model. A manual soft top offered protection from the elements, while a styled fiberglass tonneau covered the area where the rear seats normally resided. Offered in both M491 Turbo-look and narrow-body configuration, just 2,104 Speedsters were produced for worldwide use, of which 823 were destined for North American delivery.
Built in June 1989, this particular example was originally finished in a striking triple-black color scheme and equipped with air-conditioning, shorter gearshift lever, steering wheel with raised hub, rear storage compartment, and a Blaupunkt radio. Equipped for the California market, this car was originally delivered to Westwood Porsche-Audi and sold new to Shahrzad Khoyi of Los Angeles.
Sold by its original owner in May 1994 with approximately 3,000 miles, the Speedster has since resided in the San Francisco Bay Area, where it has been driven sparingly and maintained by a limited roster of enthusiast owners. The current caretaker acquired the Porsche in September 2006 with 7,325 miles on the odometer; over the past 14 years, he enjoyed the Speedster on fair-weather weekend outings, bringing the mileage to just 11,380 when catalogued.
Serviced by Ken’s Sportech, Inc. of Campbell, California throughout the present ownership, the Speedster’s service history and provenance is supported by an impressive file of maintenance and ownership records. Additionally, the car retains its original owner’s manual, warranty & maintenance booklet, tool kit, jack, and Blaupunkt radio pamphlets. Furthermore, the consignor believes that this Speedster possesses original paint and interior finishes, and reports that the factory-applied VIN stickers and option code label remain intact. The accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms that this car retains its matching-numbers engine.
Delivering a pure, elemental driving experience, the Porsche Speedster is among the most rewarding sports cars of all time. A consistently maintained California car from new, this triple-black Carrera is sure to provide motoring pleasure for years to come.
