An Exciting Find for the Mercedes-Benz Purist

This beautifully preserved Mercedes-Benz 230 CE coupe was sold new to Hans-Joachim Rotter through Mercedes-Benz of Stuttgart in 1984. A VIN-matched maintenance booklet shows two services by Mercedes in Germany before the car was sold to Rainer Potter of Wisconsin in July 1985. As documented by paperwork on file, the Mercedes was imported into the US by Multimodal International, with an EPA conversion done by Classic Motors of Illinois.

A European-specification example, the 230 CE was never sold new in the US. It utilizes a fuel-injected, 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, which in this car is coupled to an automatic transmission. Further options on this exquisite and well-equipped example include an electric sunroof, central locking system, electric passenger mirror, Becker cassette stereo with automatic antenna, heat-insulated glass with heated rear window, and a high-capacity battery and fire extinguisher.

The Manganese Brown paint is believed by the consignor to be largely original and shows incredibly well for its age, with only a few blemishes. The Palomino cloth interior is a sight to behold, with only minor wear to the front seats and an otherwise incredible level of preservation. A testament to the build quality of Mercedes-Benz cars from this era, many interior finishes appear untouched, and wear appears commensurate with the approximately 59,700 miles shown on the odometer.

Accompanied by VIN-matched manuals, Becker accessories, Mercedes-Benz data card, purchase and import paperwork, tool roll, jack, and roadside trunk reflector, this comprehensively equipped and highly original Mercedes coupe should garner serious attention from those who appreciate the highest levels of quality and preservation.
