R.A.E. Models Ltd. was established in 1975, and its 1:8 scale limited edition models were produced in very low quantities and all were made in England. This rare and desirable hand-built model perfectly captures the Porsche 550 Spyder. With its driver- side-only windscreen, the model depicts a 550 set up for racing. The model is from an extremely limited run produced approximately 20 years ago by R.A.E. for the Carl Schneider model car line. A few variations were made, and each was hand built, one at a time, in their UK facility.
The gorgeous piece is finished with smooth gloss metallic silver paintwork. The exterior features numerous subtle and correct details such as crisp photo-etched metal parts for the Porsche and Spyder scripts, rear engine cover grills, polished and plated metal bezels for the lights, accurate wheels, and two-into-one exhaust pipe. The interior is fully detailed with correct framework, drilled pedals, bent-type gearshift, and hand brake. A correct "banjo" spoke steering wheel frames the detailed dash, complete with gauges and delicate switchgear. There is even a key in the ignition with another dangling from its key ring.
This model is offered from the collection of a renowned expert and rarely does one of these 550s come up for sale, let alone in as outstanding and complete original condition as this example. The model is mounted to its original 24" x 12" wood display base.
