R.A.E. Models Ltd. was established in 1975, and its 1:8 scale limited edition models were produced in very low quantities and all were made in England. This very rare example perfectly captures the legendary 356 Speedster. The model is from a hand-built, limited edition series produced in 2000. Several different color combinations were made, one at a time, in R.A.E.’s UK facility.
The classic metallic silver paint finish is smooth and high gloss. All the exterior brightwork parts are hand-polished metal and the interior is fully detailed. The exterior features numerous subtle and correct details such as crisp photo-etched metal parts for the Porsche and Speedster scripts and single rear engine cover grill, polished and plated metal bezels for the lights, rubber trim strips with polished metal surrounds, accurate wheels, and twin exhaust pipes. The interior is fully detailed with correct, simulated ribbed rubber flooring flanked by simulated carpeting, bent-type gearshift, and under-dash hand brake. A correct spoked steering wheel frames the detailed dash, gauges, and delicate switchgear. There is even a key in the ignition with another dangling from its key ring.
This model is in mint original condition, and that fact, combined with its color scheme and scarcity, makes this a very desirable and rare find. It comes mounted in its original wood and acrylic display case, which measures 24" long x 12" wide x 9" high.
