Debuted in late 1959, the 356 B was an evolution of Porsche’s original sports car, which benefited from continuous refinement since its introduction a decade earlier. The lovely Cabriolet presented here features the rare T-5 body – only offered during the first two years of B production – and was purchased new by an American couple that took advantage of Porsche’s European Delivery program.
The 356 remained in the hands of its original owners until 1985, when it was sold to a Porsche enthusiast in Colorado. The subsequent history is well documented and included among the car’s former owners is James Schrager, author of Buying, Driving, and Enjoying the Porsche 356.
Cosmetically restored in the late 1990s and carefully maintained since, the 356 received a professional service and detailing in spring 2020, followed by a technical inspection carried out by an authorized Porsche Classic partner. The accompanying Technical Certificate confirms that the car retains its matching-numbers engine and transaxle, with the same component numbers listed on copies of the Kardex and Certificate of Authenticity.
The Cabriolet presents beautifully in period-correct Heron Grey over green leather upholstery, and the consignor reports that it retains its original stamped body panels, date-coded wheels and fuel tank, as well as its original Sekurit glass. A tool roll, jack, spare assembly, and owner’s manual are included with the sale, and the 356 is well equipped with a Blaupunkt radio, Hirschmann antenna, and “Super” hubcaps. At the rear, a luggage rack carries a picnic basket, wine carrier, blanket, and driving gloves, to complete the perfect Sunday drive.
