This super-optioned Defender is number 301 of a production run of 500, and one of only 90 examples delivered in the highly desirable Arles Blue finish, with Ash Grey tweed cloth interior. It was placed into service on January 17, 1996, and for almost its entire existence it was cared for by its original owner, Kendrick Wilson of Bedford, New York. In August 2008, Mr. Wilson commissioned an extensive reconditioning by marque expert East Coast Rover of Rockland, Maine. ECR orchestrated numerous upgrades, including the installation of a Land Rover 4.6-liter, V-8 engine. It added stainless steel brake, fuel, oil cooler, and clutch lines; a heated windshield; a pair of auxiliary Hella lights; an ECR/ROX front brush guard mount with integrated 9,000-lb. Warn winch; and two recovery hasps. ECR also removed and resealed the roof, installed a new headliner, and added an updated Alpine sound system. Completing the package were side steps, rear lamp guards, a later-generation factory air-conditioning unit, and heavy-duty Land Rover interior mats.

In October 2017, Mr. Wilson had ECR examine and service the Defender again prior to its acquisition by the consignor. Showing less than 8,000 miles at the time of cataloguing, this example comes with a CARFAX Vehicle History Report, the original owner’s manual, dealer welcome package and PDI checklist, and original showroom brochure. Ideal for a discerning collector with an eye for excellence and adventure, this Defender is a rare find for its color combination, remarkably low mileage, and thoughtful upgrades.
