The Alfa Romeo Giulietta presented here is an early 101-series Spider, constructed in 1959 and delivered new to California, finished in the handsome color scheme of black with red upholstery.
The current owner, a discriminating collector of Italian sports cars, discovered the unrestored Giulietta in Arizona and immediately acquired it, as it appeared to be the ideal candidate for a complete, concours-quality restoration. The consignor enlisted two highly regarded Italian car specialists to carry out this project. David Carte’s Classic and Sport Auto of Edinburg, Virginia, the acclaimed Ferrari authority, painstakingly restored the Pinin Farina coachwork in its original color scheme. As this work was being carried out, Tom Straubinger of Hendersonville, North Carolina, rebuilt the original engine, running gear, and other mechanical systems. No expense was spared during the process, and model experts were consulted to ensure that the details were restored with accuracy and precision. Completed in early 2018, the Giulietta Spider now presents in exceptional condition in all respects. A Gooding and Company specialist familiar with the model reports that this Spider is among the most impressive examples he has ever encountered.
Combining timeless Pinin Farina design with Alfa Romeo’s celebrated alloy twin-cam engine, this stunning Giulietta Spider is a truly impeccable example ready to make its debut on the concours lawn.
